C2i collected data on schools with ongoing testing this semester. Schools with ongoing testing have mandatory testing in some capacity for students asidefrom athletes. The following bar graphs indicate the percentages of schools with ongoing testing for the Spring 2021 semester by various factors. First, approximately two thirds of the most selective schools have ongoing testing. Comparatively, just over one-tenth of the least selective schools have continued covid testing this semester.
For HBCUs, a lower percentage, 7.29%, have had ongoing testing this spring compared to 9.26% of PWIs.
According to spring break plan, only 10% of schools with a regularly scheduled spring break have ongoing testing. This indicates that COVID-19 likely is spreading undetected at these institutions; county level data will reveal the true effects of spring break virus spreading. 17% of schools with no spring break and 18% of schools with alternative spring break plans have ongoing testing this semester.
