This graphic shows the spring break plans of institutions by school selectivity. The most/highly selective institutions have the highest percentage of “other” spring break plans which includes wellness days, mental health days and surprise breaks. The less/non-selective institutions have the highest percentage of spring break scheduled and lowest percentage of “other” spring break plans. The most/highly selective institutions may be stricter with their COVID protocols than the less/non-selective schools, so they are more creative with their spring break plans such as having mental health days instead. It was also interesting to see that the most/highly selective institutions have the lowest percentage of no spring break scheduled. Many of the schools must have opted to alternative ways of holding spring break which is shown by the high percentage of “other” spring breaks. Many of the less/non-selective schools seemed to have opted for either scheduling spring break as normal or not at all which is evident from the low “other” spring break percentage. The spring break plans for institutions was found from the C2i Spring Break Plan data collection. The selectivity of the school was used from the Barron’s Selectivity Index. I merged the highly selective and most selective categories together.
