This graphic illustrates mode of instruction by cost of attendance, using percentage instead of the number of institutions. Using IPEDs cost-of-attendance data from the 2019-2020 school year and C2i data for the Spring 2021 semester, these visualizations grouped 1656 institutions into 6 different cost categories. Among every category except for the $30,000 – $45,000 category, “Primarily or Fully Online” appears to be the most popular mode of instruction for the Spring 2021 semester in each different cost category. It is interesting to note that the costliest institutions, in the $75,000 – $90,000$ category, have the highest percentage of “Primarily or Fully Online” institutions and the lowest percentage of “Primarily or Fully In-Person” institutions compared to every other category.
